Commanders

The ASAP is a commander's program designed to monitor and improve the personnel readiness of the unit's Soldiers. Your program must be designed for a garrison and a deployed environment. Just like you ensure combat readiness of vehicles and weapon systems by frequent, recurring PMCS performed to standards, your substance abuse program helps to ensure the combat readiness of your most important combat system - your Soldiers. The ASAP is a PMCS of your Soldiers.

Below are the resources necessary to develop, implement, and execute your substance abuse program.

  • Commander´s Top Ten Guide

    The Commander is vital to the successful operation of the Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP). The Commander's Top 10 Guide is an excellent resource to assist Commanders in establishing and maintaining a successful ASAP Program.

  • ASAP Guidance for Deployed Commanders

    The ASAP Guidance for Deployed Commanders is posted in AKO. This link will for force you to log into AKO; you may have to click the link again to view or download the material. AR 600-85 requires commanders to maintain their substance abuse programs to the maximum extent practical while deployed. All units (company or larger) need to mobilize and deploy with at least two (2) certified UPLs and 100% drug testing supplies (random testing and other testing contingencies).

  • Deployed Units

    The requirement to watch out for your Soldiers' welfare with regard to substance abuse does not stop when your unit deployed. We are an Expeditionary Army and units serving in deployed areas face unique challenges when it comes to the execution of the unit level substance abuse program.
